What makes a consumer buy a particular product while another one discards the same? What makes a consumer choose to buy a particular product, out of the varied array available in the market? What factors drive a person’s choice? All these questions are a part of Consumer Behavior, which is in itself an extensive field of study, with there being multiple marketing theories and models to explain it. Here, we are attempting to broach the subject in a very superficial way and to get a basic understanding of Consumer Behavior.

Factors influencing consumer behavior:

  • A person, while buying a product, not only looks to satisfy a need but also for something extra. For example, a person looking for a shampoo would not buy only a shampoo, which is effective and cheap, but also the one which has not been tested on animals. Another example would be, a person looking for something to eat would not only choose something filling, but also healthy at the same time.
  • Some purchases are directed by the need of people to be a part of a social group, to achieve a certain status linked with buying the product. This is especially true with designer items.
  • Personal choice is another factor which influences consumer buying behavior especially when it comes to products like clothes, shoes, bags etc.
  • Perception is another factor which greatly affects the consumers’ behavior towards a product. How a customer perceives a product is in a great way reflective of whether he/she will buy it or not.

These are just some of the factors which affect consumer behavior; there are many other considerations like quality, price, kind of product, cultural factors, etc. So why consumer behavior is so important and why has it received so much interest and attention? Consumer Behavior is relevant because it allows companies to market their products effectively based on their research on consumers. Understanding is the first step to creating effective marketing strategies to encourage repeat purchases. Knowing the logic behind a consumer’s buying can also help companies create a competitive edge over other sellers. This competitive edge is what may eventually decide the fate of the business.

B2B portals are the best platform for the companies to enjoy the benefits of a targeted advertising strategy. Business Portal is a virtual place where the companies and their services are enlisted in detail with proper segregation on the basis of the nature of business, industry, regions, and more. It is a common platform for the buyers and the sellers to engage in a business relationship of trust and profit. The far reach of the B2B Portals allows the enlisted companies to grab new business opportunities. Here are some of the ways the companies can generate huge client base and increase the sales after getting enlisted on the B2B Portals –

  • B2B Portals offer a way to get promoted without wasting much on advertisements through other mediums. Breaking geographical barriers, these portals enable companies from across the globe to interact with few clicks of mouse buttons.
  • The option of listing the products for sale in product directories and catalogs makes it easy for the buyers to find the product of their need and choose the one best suiting their need. It also increases the chance for the companies to make display of the benefits and advantages of their products over the products of other companies.
  • B2B Portals offer opportunities to the companies to increase the demand for their products in the international market without even setting the offices in different countries and physically being available there.
  • B2B Portal is a reliable source, as detailed information about the companies and their products is available there. With innumerable number of buyers and sellers present on Web Portals, the time and money are saved at both ends.

Increased traffic leads, sales up gradation, and maximum profit are the perks of B2B Portals which are achieved only because of the direct contact between the buyers and the sellers. The feature of B2B Portals to allow the buyers and sellers to engage in business relations with many at the same time makes the portal flexible and more user-friendly than the conventional business strategies.

When To Say Bye To A Client

Business to business transactions revolve around the settling the deals to bring out maximum profits for both buyers as well as the sellers. It is a normal practice where the buyers attempt to make negotiations and the sellers look forward to draw good profits yet occasionally it is a different situation altogether. Sometimes as a supplier, it becomes important for you to pause and think if you are really interested to continue with a specific client. There are certain instances that should be able to tell you that this is the time to say ‘Goodbye’. Following are the situations that could help you come to a conclusion about the client:

Unreasonable Additional Favor: Draw The Line
When your client starts asking for undue favors from you in spite of the benefits that you have been providing him already as a bulk customer, you should not give in to his demands. It is good to crack the best possible deals but not at the stake of other customers who may get affected due to this.

Seeking Information of Competitors: Be Loyal To Your Business
There is every possibility that two of your clients could be arch rivals in the market and you have been serving them equally.  If one day you find one of them getting curious about the personal details of the other, think about it on a serious note. Being a loyal business partner, you would definitely not want to share details of your client with the other while disturbing your other dealings. Do not let things get murkier and leave the client who may disturb your business.

Breach of Agreement: An Unworthy Client
An agreement is done when a legal bond is signed between the buyers and sellers. It is not just about the legal obligations but the mutual trust amongst the business partners, which makes your business run smoothly. If there is breach of that agreement it’s the breach of the mutual faith which is no way good for your business. However, if your partner doesn’t seem to have done it intentionally and posses a good track record then an explanation can be demanded. If not satisfied with the reasoning provided, you can shun the business relation right away.

Good business does not mean holding on to as many clients as possible, it’s about having a healthy relationship with select few who can deal ethically for mutual benefit. So when you realize that the client you are dealing with is getting difficult, just say Goodbye and move on.
